From Soil to Food...

It is amazing that all kind of food comes from the same thing - Soil.
If we break food up, its just elements from earth forming different funny compounds that tastegood!
If only there was a method to synthesize food from soil. It would either lead to elimination of poverty or collapse of world economy. I wouldn't guess which.Natural elements are the purest form of a material. That means if you take the pure form of an element, it will contain the same type of atoms anywhere you look in it. These elements gets itchy when it is in free state, and so it forms compounds with other elements they like (ya, exactly as you think!).
And then there are two types of compounds. Organic and inorganic. Organic are the stuff that we are mostly made of. And so is most of the plant and animals and other carbon based compounds in this world. Inorganic stuff are those consumer products like soaps and shampoos and glycerin. You use that, you slowly turn inorganic (eventually back to soil).
Plants are wonderful machines that synthesize these elements into organic compounds through photosynthesis (which we eat and poop). Replicating this would be one of the greatest discoveries of all times. Making food from soil without waiting for the plants to grow and fruit. Making chicken from a soil-to-chicken converter in kitchen. All these seems to be a fantasy of akid, but if realized will change the way humans live.
Is this possible? Should it be implemented? Should it be restricted?

Questions...questions...questions...
